How is the price of a gold bar made up?
The price consists of the live gold rate (spot price) for the relevant weight plus a transparent premium. This premium covers minting, sourcing and margin, and falls in percentage terms as the bar grows – a 1 kg bar is therefore cheaper per gram than ten 100 g bars.
Are gold bars really VAT-free?
Yes. Investment gold with a fineness of at least 995 is exempt from VAT in Germany and across the EU. You pay the material value plus premium, but no 19% VAT.
Which size makes sense?
It depends on your budget and your goal. Small bars (1 g to 20 g) are flexible and easy to divide but carry a higher percentage premium. Larger units (100 g, 250 g, 1 kg) are cheaper per gram. Often a mix is most sensible – we are happy to advise.
What does counter business (Tafelgeschäft) mean?
Counter business means buying smaller quantities of precious metal directly in the shop and taking them with you immediately. Above certain amounts, anti-money-laundering law requires identification; beyond that we handle the purchase by appointment and with due care.
Do you also buy gold bars back?
Yes. We buy back LBMA-certified bars at the current purchase price – ideally with the original certificate and packaging. That keeps your gold liquid, and gives you a reliable partner in Freiburg for both buying and selling.
