Krugerrand vs Maple Leaf — which investment coin fits?

Two of the most famous bullion coins compared.

The Krugerrand (22-karat / 916) has been minted in South Africa since 1967 and contains 1 oz of fine gold (total weight 33.93 g due to copper alloy). The Maple Leaf (999.9) from Canada weighs exactly 1 oz and is more scratch-resistant by design.

Krugerrand premiums tend to be slightly lower; Maple Leafs sometimes resell at better prices. Both are VAT-free in Germany (§25c UStG).

A mix of both reduces concentration risk and gives flexibility on resale.
