How do I recognize real gold?

First: check the hallmark — 999, 750, 585. No hallmark? Be cautious.

Second: magnet test. Gold is not magnetic. If a strong magnet attracts the piece, it isn't gold (or only thinly plated).

Third: density vs size. Gold is much denser than most fakes — a trained hand notices. In doubt, come by — we test for free.
